Independence Day Regatta

Happy Fourth of July America!

Good luck to all competitors on the water today at the Independence Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. This historic regatta was originally known as the People’s Regatta when it started under the auspices of the Schuylkill Navy in 1887. The name change to the Independence Day Regatta with the 100th anniversary of the race in 1958 was due in part to the anticommunist stance of the time as the People’s Regatta was considered inappropriately named for a regatta run over the “national course.” For more information check out: info@independencedayregatta.com.
