Last of the January Indoor Regattas

 The Connecticut Indoor Rowing Championships will be held at the Easton Community Center, 364 Sport Hill Road in Easton, Connecticut hosted by the Junior Team of the Saugatuck Rowing Club. 366 entries from 20 clubs are expected. 

106 entries from 9 clubs plan to compete at the Crusader Erg Challenge at Canisius High School in  Buffalo, New York. The indoor regatta will be hosted by Canisius High School Crew.

Erging Away in France and the USA

Rescheduled from last week, the Philadelphia Indoor Rowing Challenge will be held at the Kelly Fieldhouse in Philadelphia. Hosted by St. Joseph Preparatory School, there will be 257 entries from 26 clubs. 

Also in Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Indoor Sprints will be hosted by the Three Rivers Rowing Association. Sponsored by Concept2 CTS, the Pittsburgh Indoor Rowing Championship is the fourth largest Crash-B qualifier in the world following Melborne, Alexandria and Toronto. 564 entries from 21 clubs will compete: 2000m for Masters, Open, Youth Lightweight and Openweight categories, 1000m for Adaptive, Coxswain and Masters 30+ (no handicap), 3000m Open and Youth categories in addition to relay. 

The Ironmen Erg Classic 2016 in Ramsey, New Jersey will be hosted by Don Bosco Prep High School sponsored by Hudson. There will be 392 entries from 37 clubs.

The Northeast Erg Sprints will be held in North Andover, Massachusetts. Master, Open, Collegiate, and Junior categories will compete hosted by Greater Lawrence Rowing totaling 145 entries from 29 clubs. 

The MidAtlantic Erg Sprints will be held at TC Williams High School, Alexandria, Virginia. Master, Open, Collegiate, High School, Adaptive, Junior and Coxswain will erg indoors hosted by Alexandria Crew Boosters. Concept2 has provided 180 ergs for 1834 entries from 128 clubs. Late registration is available but not guaranteed. Lightweight rowers are to be weighed before checkin and all rowers must arrive to the warm up room at least 30 minutes prior to their event.

In Chattanooga, the Tennessee Indoor Rowing Championships will be held in Maclellan Gym, 615 McCallue Avenue on the campus of UTC. Master, Open, Collegiate, HIgh School, Junior, Novice, and Coxswain categories will be hosted by UTC Rowing.

The Mark Williams Ergatta will be held in Gainesville, Georgia at the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue to benefit the Mark Williams Scholarship Fund. Lake Lanier Rowing Center will host rowers and nonrowers alike to the competition. 59 entries from 4 clubs are expected.

In Indiana, the Indianapolis Indoor Rowing Championships will be hosted by the Indianapolis Rowing Center. 125 entries from 16 clubs will compete at the International School of Indiana, 4330 N. Michigan Road in the Blackwell Gymnasium.

In California, the San Diego Indoor Classic Rowing Championships will be hosted by the San Diego Rowing Club. There will be 146 entries from 10 clubs. Adaptive rowers are asked to bring their own equipment to modify Concept2 ergs. 

Motown Madness will be held in where else but Detroit, Michigan hosted by Friends of Detroit Rowing and the Detroit Boat Club Crew which was established in 1839. 143 entries from 12 clubs are expected for the indoor regatta at the DBCC Boathouse on Belle Island. On Friday, February 12, rowers can compete in 30 minute, 1 hour, ½ marathon, and adaptive races, while the Saturday, February 13 races will include 500 meter, 1,000 meter Team Challenge, 2,000 meters, and youth races.

Amsterdam World Ergohead and Too Much Snow in Philly

The Philadelphia Indoor Rowing Challenge planned for today has been rescheduled for January 30, 2016 due to the snow storm that has blanketed much of the region. The 283 entries from 26 clubs will compete next week  in the Kelly Fieldhouse hosted by St. Joseph’s Preparatory School with a 10am start time. 

  
Amsterdam World Ergohead 2016 will be hosted by RV de Amstel in the Netherlands. The 19th World Ergohead, an international open indoor rowing championship race celebrates long distance rowing. Juniors erg for 10 minutes and all remaining rowers erg for 6000m. Dutch rowers compete the 6000m with hopes to meet the requirements to be considered for the Dutch National team.

Row in the Snow

 

CHARGERS Row in the Snow 2016, a benefit indoor regatta  for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be held in the Tree Canyon Area of the USA Destiny Mall in Syracuse, New York. Master, Open, High School and Novice entries, 74 in all from 6 clubs will be hosted by the Chargers Rowing Club. Competition includes 1k, 2k and relay with a start time of 11am. 

The inaugural Citrus Sprints Regatta will be hosted by the Rowing Association of Citrus County Students (ROCCS) on Lake Henderson in downtown Inverness, Florida. Lake Henderson is beautifully bordered by Liberty Park and Wallace Brooks Park. Launch and Recovery will be located with registration and team trailer parking in Liberty Park. Team tents, vendors and spectators will be located in Wallace Brooks Park. The Florida State Rails to Trails conveniently connects the two lakes with a wooden walkway. Together with a T-Dock that extends over the lake these two spots provide the best viewing for the regatta. There will be 107 entries from 11 clubs. Coxswain meeting at 7am, competition starts at 8:50.

Midwinter Meltdown and More

  
The Midwinter Meltdown will be held today, January 16, 2016 at the University of Wisconsin Madison Porter Boathouse in you guessed it Madison, Wisconsin. Mendota Rowing Club will host 82 entries from 20 clubs to the indoor venue comprised of 1000m, 2000m, 6000m and relays using Concept2 Model D Ergs. Rowers will compete to receive round trip air transportation to Boston for the 2016 CRASH-Bs. The CRASH-B Sprints are the World Indoor Rowing Chanpionships to be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016. 

The 5th Annual Greater Dayton Erg Sprint will take place in the Vandalia Recreation Center Gym at 1111 Stonequarry Road, Dayton, Ohio 45414. The Greater Dayton Rowing Association will host 78 entries from 5 clubs. Rowers of all levels will compete for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals in various categories of 2000m competition. Crews will also row 500m in quad relay races against other crews of 4 to simulate a shell. There will be no medals for the relays.  

In Oklahoma, the Tulsa Youth Rowing Association will be hosting 136 entries from 7 clubs to the 1st annual TYRA 2K indoor rowing competition. The indoor venue will take place at Okie CrossFit, 6511 E 44th St in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The inaugural event is a fundraiser for youth rowing initiatives in the greater Tulsa area. There will be three levels of competition. The first competition will be best times in weight and age categories competing on Concept2 ergs in a 2000k. The second competition will be comprised of teams rowing 1000k with combined scores averaged to determine the best erg score. This event will award best Trophy including a Corporate Trophy for best company participating in the event, a great team building opportunity. The third event is the most comprehensive with a special CrossFit WOD, otherwise known as CrossFit “Workout of the Day” and the signature “TYRA 2K.” The event is comprised of a 600m row, 30 Air Squats, 500m row, 30 Sit Ups, 400m row, 30 Push Ups, 300m row, 30 Burpees, ending with a 200m row to be completed in the shortest time possible. Whether you can handle one or all three events is up to you! All proceeds will go to raising awareness in youth rowing. 

 
In Hollis, New Hampshire it is not only a midwinter meltdown but a HB Crew Winter Warmer Ergatta. Hollis Brookline Cavaliers Crew will host 92 entries from 13 clubs at Hollis Brookline High School. There will be individual and 4x relay events.

Resolution Row

  
Not much on the Regatta calendar this early in the year, but some rowers in New Jersey have made the resolution to row! Westfield Indoor Rowing LLC will host 68 entries from 10 clubs to the inaugural Resolution Row today, January 10, 2016. There will be a $25 entry fee at the indoor venue, Washington Elementary School, 900 St Marks Avenue, Westfield, New Jersey. 

Heats vary from 500 to 2000 meters and medals will be awarded for first place in each of the masters, college, high school/scholastic and open categories. There will also be a 12+ youth category. All rowers will be able to track their standing against the other nine rowers in their heat on the big screen. There is no escaping the resolution to row hard in New Jersey right now in preparation for what lies ahead this Spring.

Cougar Classic

It’s a new year and a new calendar of rowing events. New this year is the Cougar Classic to be held at St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip, NY. The indoor event is open to Masters, Collegiate, High School/Scholastic and Junior rowers. Hosted by St. John the Baptist DHS Crew, there will be 76 entries from 6 clubs allowing each rower the opportunity for unlimited racing in twenty different events for a $25.00 entry fee. Entries will be based upon submitted erg scores enabling each rower competition against rowers of similar ability. The top five rowers in each heat will receive medals.  The highlight of the Cougar Classic is the raffle for a brand new Concept II® erg.
