Alright, alright, alright… It’s already time for the first of the March regattas with Spring only weeks away. There’s a cancellation in the desert, Jersey Shore rowers and Texas hearts rowing on a lake inspired by a First Lady. *** Cancellation: The Desert Sprints hosted by the Tempe Rowers Association in Arizona has been cancelled due to ongoing repairs on Tempe Town Lake dam.
Rowing continues on in Arizona, at the Arizona Indoor Rowing Championships in Phoenix. Brophy College Preparatory Crew will host 134 entries from 8 clubs in the Robson Gymnasium on the Brophy College Prepatory campus. Events will include Junior, High School, Collegiate, Master, Open, Elite and Adaptive categories.
On the Jersey Shore, the Brigantine Rowing Club will host the Greenhead Sprints, 301 E. Evans Blvd., Brigantine, New Jersey. There will be 319 entries from 14 clubs in High School, Collegiate, Open and Master categories.
Rowers will stampede the Lone Star state over the weekend, March 5 through March 6 in Austin as 846 entries from 40 clubs make their way to the Heart of Texas Regatta. Austin Rowing Club will host Junior, High School, Collegiate, Open and Adaptive categories on Lady Bird Lake.
Getting down to business, the 8th Annual Opening Day Regatta will be held in Fellsmere, Florida at Canal 24. Sebastian River High School Crew will host 51 entries from 8 clubs over the next two days, March 5 through the March 6 in Junior, High School, Open and Master categories.
Also in Florida, the Alumni Sprints League will be held in Clermont. Collegiate, High School and Alumni Teams will be hosted by the Lake County Rowing Association.
The Maine Indoor Championship will be held in lobster country at the Finley Recreation Center on the campus of the University of New England, 684 Stevens Avenue in Portland. This is a Concept2 event. Portland Community Rowing Association will host 33 entries from 8 clubs.
The Island Sprints will be held at Grosse Ile Middle School, 28350 Chatham, Grosse Ile Michigan. This is a Concept2 event hosted by Grosse Ile Rowing Club.
In Canada, Ridley Graduate Boat Club will host the Ontario Ergometer Championships at the Ridley College Field House, 1 Ridley Road, St. Catharines, Ontario. This is a Concept2 event. 711 entries are expected from 62 clubs in Junior, High School, Open and Master categories.
In British Rowing, the Women’s Eights Head of the River Race will be held in the Thames Region. The Women’s Eights Head Of the River Race started in 1930 with just 5 crews and has grown to be an international event, the largest in Women’s Rowing with over 2,880 women competing from 320 crews. And Yorkshire Head Of The River will be held in the Yorkshire Region with three levels of 4k racing on the River Don hosted by Yorkshire Rowing.
