2016 World Cup I

The World Cup I starts today in beautiful Varese, Italy organized by the Comitato Organizzatore dei Campionati. Located in the Northern part of Italy, Varese is 55km north of Milan in the shadow of the Campo dei Fiori mountain range. The population of Varese is about 80,000. Varese hosted the Coupe de la Jeunesse in 2007, the European Rowing Championships in 2012, the World Rowing Masters Regatta in 2013 and the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in 2014.

 A tourist draw, Lake Varese measures 8.8 km long and 4.5 wide. Lake Varese is safeguarded by European Union’s Natura 2000 program to protect rare and endangered species in their natural habitat. The course on Lake Varess was made available for training on Wednesday and the Team Managers Meeting and Draw was held yesterday. The Heats and Repechage start today. The Semifinals will be held tomorrow finishing with the Finals on Sunday.

Each country competing in the 2016 World Rowing Cup I may enter up to four crews in each event.


  1. Men (M) 1x, 2x, 2-, 2+, 4x, 4-, 8+
  2. Women (W) 1x,2x,2-,4x, 4-, 8+
  3. Lightweight Men (LM) 1x,2x,2-,4x,4
  4. Lightweight Women (LW) 1x,2x,4x
