Chicago Dirty Dozen and More

  
 

Today, the last Sunday in August offers a wrap up of the summer month with a curious mixture of long regattas, marathons really to loudly squeak out the remains of the season. A rower’s endurance is measured for a Chicago Dirty Dozen and more. 
  

Back again this year is the first in a series of three endurance regattas planned for Chicago on the Chicago River at the Dammrich Boathouse. Today the Chicago Dirty Dozen 3k Challenge will be held for three committed sculling entries from one club hosted by the Alliance Rowing Club of Illinois. On tap for September is a 5k followed by a final 6k in October. 
  

In Canada, Ottawa New Edinburgh Club, established in 1883 will host the Canadian Rowing Marathon, a full 42km and a half 21km marathon on the Ottawa River. 
  In British Rowing, Bideford, Port Of, Regatta will be held Sunday 28th August 2016.

  

Ross Masters & Junior Regatta will be held for Junior and Master entries Sunday 28th August 2016 in the West Midlands region hosted by Ross Rowing Club, Rope Walk, Ross on Rye, Herefordshire.

  
Gloucester Open Regatta will be held Sunday 28th August 2016 in the WAGS region hosted by Gloucester Rowing Club.

  

Boston Regatta will be held Sunday 28th August 2016 in the East Midlands region hosted by Boston Rowing Club.

Red Bull High Stakes and More

  

Red Bull High Stakes 2016 will be held at the Riverside Boat Club on the Charles in Boston, Massachusetts hosted by Red Bull North America. There will be 16 entries from 16 clubs. 

  

In Canada, Coupe Qu├ębec jeunesse d’aviron de Sherbrooke will be held at Lac des Nations, parc Jaques-Cartier in Sherbrooke, Quebec hosted by Club Nautique de Sherbrooke Section Aviron. There will be 67 entries from 7 clubs.
  

In British Rowing, the Glouster Junior and Masters Regatta will be held today  on the Sharpness-Gloucester Canal hosted by Gloucester Rowing Club.

Americas Masters Games Rowing Regatta Cancelled

  

Americas Masters Games Rowing Regattascheduled to start today in Vancouver, British Columbia for Master entries hosted by Rowing British Columbia have been cancelled due to safety concerns at the venue. The anticipated high volume of boat traffic was deemed unsafe for competition at False Creek. The rowing part of the games was scheduled to run from Friday August 26 through Sunday August 28. Rowing was to be one of the 25 sports held for ages 27+ at the first year of the Americas Masters Games. The games will be be held today through September 4. 

  

  

2016 USRowing Masters National Championships & Oxford City Sprints

A quiet day on the regatta calendar today with the summer season winding down right now. Old faithful over 21 Masters compete in Massachusetts while the Brits sprint in Oxford.
  

The 2016 USRowing Masters National Championships will continue today at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts hosted by Destination Worcester, Quinsigamond Rowing Association and USRowing. There will be a total of 2,151 Entries from 165 clubs.

Oxford City Sprint will be held on the River Isis in Oxford starting at the clubhouse and finishing at Longbridges in the village hosted by Oxford Rowing Club in the Thames region.

Regatta August 20, 2016

  

The 2016 USRowing Masters National Championships will continue today at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts hosted by Destination Worcester, Quinsigamond Rowing Association and USRowing. There will be a total of 2,151 Entries from 165 clubs. For livestream check HERE.
 The 4th Annual Capital City Sprints will be held in Lansing, Michigan at Grand River Park. Lansing Rowing Club will host 130 entries from 15 clubs. Spectators can watch the regatta abroad the Michigan Princess waiting at the finish of the 1000m course.
  

Tim Huebner Challenge will be held today on the open water of Santa Cruz Harbor.  Santa Cruz Rowing Club will host 13 entries from 3 clubs. The long 10.5 mile course runs from the Cement Ship and back. The shorter 3.3 mile course runs from Soquel Buoy and back. All competitors leave from Santa Cruz Harbor at 8am. 
 

 In Canada, the 113th Annual NWIRA Championships wrap up on Rabbit Lake in Kenora, Ontario hosted by the Kenora Rowing Club. There will be a total of 408 entries from 11 clubs. 

   
In British Rowing, the Torbay Royal Regatta will be held August 20 and August 21.
  

Oxford Rowing Club will host the 175th Oxford City Regatta on the River Isis, which is the part of the River Thames above Iffley Lock in Oxford over the next two days. There will be both 1000m and 500m races starting at the clubhouse and finishing at Longbridges in the village. 
  

***CANCELLATION*** Warwick Boat Club has cancelled the Warwick Regatta in the West Midlands region due to a yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office for Warwickshire. 

 

Olympic Summer Games Rio Day 8 and More

 
 

Day 8 is the last rowing day for the Summer Games in Rio at Lagoa Stadium. There are 4 Gold medals up for grabs and a full calendar of waiting opportunity. The grand crescendo will be Men’s Eights as the heat promises a close finish repeat of the Rowing World Cup held in Poland last month between reigning Germany and Great Britain.

Amoskeag Rowing Club will host the Blue Heron in Hookset New Hampshire for Master, Open, Collegiate Men & Women, HIgh School, Junior, Novice and Other entries.

And on Cape Cod, the Orleans Sweeps and Sculls will be held at Head of the Cove in Orleans Massachusetts hosted by Orleans Sweeps and Sculls for Juniors, Open, Masters and Dual entries. Boats will be provided for single, double and quad events. 

  Southwest Rowing Challenge will be held today at Great Times Crossfit, 7000 E Tanque Verde in Tucson, Arizona. This is a Concept2 indoor racing event hosted by Great Times CrossFit.

Summer Olympic Games Rio Day 7

  

Yesterday saw the first of the rowing medals at the Summer Olympic Games in Rio. New Zealand’s Men’s Coxless Pair gets Gold again pulling ahead of South Africa and Italy. Eric Murray and Hamish Bond earn yet another Gold Medal, unstoppable in Rio as they were at the London games. Murray and Bond have won 69 consecutive races including 6 Workd Championships, 16 World Cups and 2 Olympic wins over the last 8 years. Congrats to the amazing duo!
